Camp Bear Wallow
with Nancy Robb Dunst
Camp Bear Wallow 2009 - The Art Camp for Kids. Directed by
Nancy Robb Dunst. A 4-week
camp from June 1-5, 9-13, July 6-10, & 13-17,
9:30 am-12:30 pm each day in the Art Cabin. Sign up for 1 week or
all 4. The camp can take 12 children each week, age 6 to 11 and includes paint,
sculpture, fiber and clay. On Wednesdays, they might travel the
Institute
of Eco Tourism to learn eco-arts and
work with a US Forest ranger, sketching and learning about habitats.
A special registration with Nancy Robb Dunst
(282-0776 or 221-3202) is Required to go to the
Institute
of Eco Tourism.
On July 17th, a garden party/exhibit will be held where each child will
demonstrate their favorite new art process (i.e. carving soap, puppet stories)
and works. In addition, a mosaic bench, designed by the children, will be
unveiled and donated to the community. This will be a public event with parents
invited and refreshments. Tuition is based on a sliding scale (see below).
Children will need to bring a snack each day as there will be a break time.

Camp
Philosophy
- To promote the joys of childhood through experience in the arts
- To raise self esteem, self expression, self and other awareness, problem
solving, creativity and critical thinking.
- To promote the AZ State School Art Standards of creating art, art in
context and art as inquiry.

Program

Balloon Sculpting!
- Fabulous Fiber! (tie-dying, weaving, painted T-shirts & shoes)
(Children need to bring a white or pastel T-Shirt)
- Powerful Painting! (creative blocks, visual journaling, murals, water
colors, pastels, crayons)
- Creative Clay! (animals, self portraits, bowls, cups & masks)
- Puppets & Plays! (stories, poems, hip hop dance and acting)
- Art & Science! (Eco Arts, Solar energy sculpture, making clay)
All of these areas will be covered each week, and each week will be different
Monday-Friday so that even if a child can only come for one week, she or he will
receive training in each of the media. Tennis shoes
are required.

Nancy
Robb Dunst
Nancy Robb Dunst has been a professional artists for
30 years. She has a master's degree in Education and also in Counseling.
She has been commissioned by Sky Harbor International Airport, The City of
Yuma, Harkins Theaters, the City of Tempe and is in numerous art
collections. She has been a long term artist (studio on site) at the Madison
School District (Phoenix) for 2 years, and the Sedona Red Rock High School
for 2½ years and at the Demiguile Elementary School in Flagstaff. This will
be the tenth year that she has developed and taught a Summer Art Program.

Volunteers
The camp needs several parent volunteers to help each
day in the classrooms. When you register, please let Sedona Creative Life
Center know if you are able to volunteer.
